Hair

2019

The project develops from a reflective process around racial and social identity in a mixed-race country such as Colombia. In an attempt to recognize the world around me, my day to day life, others, and therefore myself.

The series consist in 5 brooches – Braid, Knot, Wave, Spike and Curve – that address metaphorically 5 racial constructs from my everyday landscape. They seek to explore physical identity from both an individual and social perspective, through brush making and brush binding techniques using wood, human hair, silver and gold.
