‘Abrazando el miedo’ is a piece about acknowledging fear as a protection mechanism. It gathers shaven beard hair I collected for over two years to use as an offer to conjure it. This primal instinct that often clenches our hands and body, and paralyzes us, has the same power to push us, to make us react, and help us thrive. The piece invites us to navigate through fear instead of to avoid it. To listen to it, to understand it, to tune in with it and to work with it. It makes a connection to our heart by forcing us to open our left hand and reach out to it.
